Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering installed the 3 MV Tandetron accelerator, dedicated to both basic and applied research in atomic and nuclear physics, in 2012. This accelerator was designed, custom-built and tested for IFIN-HH by High Voltage Engineering Europe B.V. in Amersfoort, Netherlands.

Ion Beam Analysis (IBA), Micro Particle Induced X-ray Emission (μPIXE), Particle Induces Gamma Ray Emission (PIGE), Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis (ERDA), Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) are implemented for elemental analysis, material characterization and ion implantation.
